remise

Primary tabs

To give up a claim to something; a term most commonly used in quitclaim deeds conveying real property. As in the U.S. Supreme Court Case Spreckels v. Brown, in conveyances, a grantor evidences their intent to convey the deed to the grantee without any warranties as to the quality of title (i.e. a quitclaim deed) often by employing the language “remise, release, and quitclaim.”
