professional guardian

Primary tabs

Professional guardians take care of their wards, not because they are their friends or family members, but because they are paid to do so. Many professional guardians are lawyers, doctors, social workers, or other trained professionals. Others are nursing homes or medical facilities.

There are many reasons why courts appoint professional guardians. Sometimes, incapacitated people have no one else who is eligible to be their guardian. In other instances, professional guardians are more qualified than friends or family members.
