probationary period

Primary tabs

Probationary period refers to the period that employees must work before they could acquire full rights in some jobs. States may have employment statutes that protect employees who complete their probationary period, as the Montana Supreme Court noted in Blehm v. St. John’s Lutheran Hospital.

Probationary period also refers to the period during which a convicted criminal defendant is placed on probation. As seen in the California Court of Appeals, First District, Second Division case of People v. Ornelas, the length of a probationary period could be decided by factors including statute and court authority.
