personal financial responsibility counseling

Primary tabs

Personal financial responsibility counseling, or personal financial management class, is a class that an individual debtor (but not a business debtor) must complete within 60 days after the 341 Meeting of Creditors in order to obtain a discharge of debts. Only the counselors and educator that appear on the U.S. Trustee Program’s list can provide the required counseling and may issue the certificate of credit counseling completion (see here for more details of approved counseling organizations). An individual must file this certificate to the bankruptcy court before discharge.
