money demand

Primary tabs

A money demand is a legal claim or request for the payment of a fixed sum of money. It is a demand made by one party to another, as opposed to a damage claims or money damages award, which must be assessed by the trier of fact. The party making the money demand generally has the burden of proving the validity of the claim and providing evidence to support the requested amount. If a money demand is valid and uncontested, the party against whom the demand is made may be legally obligated to pay the requested amount. Failure to comply with a legitimate money demand can lead to further legal action, such as lawsuits, collection efforts, or other remedies available under the law to enforce the payment.
