The part of a courtroom with seating in an area that is enclosed, or boxed, around jurors during a jury trial. The jury box is normally situated in such a way that there is clear visibility of the judge, the attorney’s podium and the witness stand. Jury box may also refer to the “jury box method” referred to in NY Criminal Procedure § 270.15, which guides the process of selecting a jury and alternate jurors from individuals sitting in the box, subject to peremptory challenges.
