divorce agreement

Primary tabs

A divorce agreement is an agreement written for a divorcing couple that settles issues, such as how property will be divided, child custody, child support, child visitation, and alimony. The agreement can be entered into before or after the couple files for divorce

When the agreement has been put into writing, signed by the divorcing parties, and accepted by the court, it becomes a binding contract that both parties must obey. Judges are able to review the agreement to make sure the terms are fair to both parties and can also settle issues that the parties can’t agree on.

Divorce agreements can be modified in the future if both parties wish to change the terms of the contract.
