accord

Primary tabs

Accord has three major definitions:

  • A harmonious agreement, especially between countries.
  • An offer to substitute a different obligation for one that was previously owed, plus the acceptance of that offer.  Either of the parties involved can propose an accord.  If the newly substituted obligation is performed, the performance is called a satisfaction.  See Accord and satisfaction.
  • signal indicating that the cited source conforms in some way to a source already identified in the author's previous sentence.  Thus, if a participant in negotiations reported a very heated debate, an accord citation could point to a matching report from another participant.
