Commercial Email and Spam:
Unsolicited Commercial Email Protection Act, codified at Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 445 (§§ 445.2501 - 445.2508)
Telemarketing and Telephonic Anti-Solicitation:
Michigan laws regulate "home solicitation sales," including telemarketing sales, and establish a "Do Not Call" registry. See Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 445 (§§ 445.111, 445.111a - 445.111e, 445.112 - 445.117).
Michigan's penal code criminalizes certain malicious uses of telecommunications services (e.g. harassment). See Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 750 (§ 750.540e).
Faxes, Texts, and Other Media Anti-Solicitation:
Michigan prohibits the use of fax machines to send unsolicited advertisements, and provides for a private right of action to enforce the prohibition. See Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 445 (§§ 445.1771 - 445.1776).
Unlawful Trade Practices:
Michigan specifies a number of unlawful trade practices in Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 445 (§ 445.903). Spam emailing activity is not specifically defined as an unlawful trade practice in this section. On the other hand, violations of the telemarketing statutes and the Identity Theft Protection Act are defined as unlawful trade practices. See Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 445 (§§ 445.903(gg) & 445.903(jj)).
Pornography:
The Michigan Children's Protection Act of 2004 provides for the registration of telecommunications and email "contact points" used by minors, and prohibits pornographic messages sent to such "contact points" (including email messages) in violation of the Act. See Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 752 (§§ 752.1061 - 752.1068).
Computer-related Crime:
The Michigan Children's Protection Act of 2004 provides for the registration of telecommunications and email "contact points" used by minors, and criminalizes all messages sent to such "contact points" (including email messages) in violation of the Act.
